Hopefield Animal Sanctuary’s Sophie Kemp tells us what’s happening during Dinosaur Week and the unbreakable bond between a hen and a duck.
This week is Dinosaur Week and it's been great to have so many visitors come and take part!
With our educational Dinosaur Trail, various animal talks and feeds throughout the day, activities in our Events Barn, new play area, and of course, our 500 rescue residents, there's so much to do for the whole family!
We'd like to introduce two of our newest arrivals - Monica (hen) and Phoebe (duck).
They were passed into our care due to their owner currently undergoing cancer treatment, and was left unable to care for them.
On arrival, we put Phoebe in with the other ducks and found that she wasn't waterproof, and she was also terrified of the other ducks. She was desperate to go back with her best friend, and we made the decision for her welfare, to allow her to live with Monica and the other chickens.
Phoebe thinks she's a chicken so she's a little confused but has a paddling pool for when she decides she wants to be a duck.
We have our Summer Fun Day on Sunday, August 25, with a beer tent provided by Brentwood Brewery, inflatables, children's entertainer and SO much more!
The weather is looking amazing so we're really excited, and hoping for a great event.
