A leisure centre's new programme tackling loneliness in the community has launched.

Staff and volunteers gathered at the Brentwood Centre, Doddinghurst Road, Brentwood, on Friday, March 8, to celebrate the wellbeing programme Chat 1st, as well as meet other organisations involved in the project including Samaritans, The Children’s Society, Active Essex, Home Instead and Brentwood Borough Council.

The Brentwood Centre has long been a model of inclusivity within the leisure industry and the next step was to create a way to champion the great work being done and also to provide a single point of entry for people looking to get involved in physical activity; a place where you could turn if you weren’t quite sure of the support available to you.

So whether you want to get involved in Fit and Fed, Cardiac Rehab, mental wellbeing classes, the community garden or any of the other clubs and sessions held at the centre, you can find out more through Chat 1st.

Centre manager Nicky Smith said: The launch was fantastic, it was a really positive start for the programme.

“The team are so pleased to be working with the Community on this new project.

“The launch event was well attended and we gained many pledges of support, funding and referral leads from organisations and services around Essex.”
