Brentwood pupils managed to retain their title of district champions at an annual athletics competition.

The Ursuline Preparatory School in Great Warley Street hosted this year's Small School's District Athletics Competition in the grounds of the Brentwood Senior School.

A spokeswoman from the school said: "It was a beautiful day and many parents came to cheer their children on.

"All the students performed well with some very close finishes. The competitors from The Ursuline Prep excelled in the field events as well as on the track.

"Children throughout the Juniors took part and thoroughly enjoyed the competition."

Five local schools attended, each submitting an A and B team.

Mr David Lewis, head of boys PE who organised the event, was delighted when The Ursuline Prep School finished as district champions, retaining their title.

He said he was impressed with the stamina and determination of the children involved.
