A primary school welcomed those from a Nationwide bank to talk about the importance of helping the community.

Margaretting Primary School, Penny’s Lane, Ingatestone, invited representatives from Nationwide in Chelmsford who asked pupils to design posters for their foyer to encourage people to donate food to the bank’s foodbank as well as to the school’s.

The bank will be handing out prizes to the winning posters.

Margaretting School has had its foodbank for the past year and gained so many donations during the Christmas period that the school was able to feed three families in the local area.

Headteacher Maire O’Regan would like to encourage other business and schools to start their own.

Following the presentation, teachers also asked Nationwide to open accounts for some of the children, investing a £1 per child.

Headteacher Maire O’Regan said: “The house captains from our school have taken on projects this year and food banks are one of those projects.

“We are also trying to see if other businesses and schools around the UK and worldwide would start food banks too.

“Nationwide in Chelmsford are dedicated to helping the community and we were very impressed with their philosophy to try to get other banks and businesses to start food banks.

“We are going to work with Nationwide in the future and are holding a competition in May.

“The children were really impressed that adults were also doing the same food bank project as us!”
