Once again, residents can bid for money to benefit the borough as the Brentwood Community Fund 2019 is welcoming applications.

The community fund is available for local organisations and individuals to bid for projects that will make a difference to their local community and tackle issues that they deem important.

Last year, 28 organisations applied for more than £50,000 of funding to support local initiatives.

The council was able to support eight organisations with projects such as play group and accessible sporting equipment, contributions towards furniture for new community spaces and activities that promote local mental health services.

As part of its social value commitment to the community, Axis, who will be delivering repairs and maintenance on council housing over the next 10 years, has significantly contributed to the total grant fund.

Along with additional funding from Brentwood Borough Council, the individual application limit has now doubled from £2000 to £4000.

Chairman of the health and community committee, Councillor Cliff Poppy said: "We are incredibly thankful to Axis for its generosity which, together with council funding, has allowed us to increase the amount we can distribute from £2,000 to £4,000 per application. "Axis's help also means the community fund can now make more contributions to more projects.

"This will make a real difference to the lives of people in Brentwood.

"Every year this Fund gives groups the opportunity to get money for specific items or schemes that they would not otherwise be able to access.

"I want to encourage all those involved in community groups to apply."

Applicants must be able to show how the community has been involved in the design of the project, that match or in kind funding has been sought, that the project is sustainable and contributes to certain priorities under the council's Vision for Brentwood 2016-2019, including environment and housing, community and health and economic development.

An Axis spokesman said: "We are delighted to be working with Brentwood Borough Council not just on the main contractual work for the council's properties but also as part of the wider community.

"We are a family firm that has a legacy of being committed and involved in providing more than bricks and mortar maintenance for residents.

"Helping to build community initiatives is important not just to use but for the longevity and benefit of all.

"We look forward to the range of applications and ensuring as many people as possible get funding that will help secure their schemes for the benefit of all."

Applications must be submitted before Friday, September 27.
