This month, I’m going to be volunteering as part of the Spruce Up The High Street initiative from Brentwood Borough Council.

It’s a volunteering opportunity available to all adults in the community, with plenty to do and lots of different options for giving our town centre a good spring clean.

I’ll be there on March, Friday 8, in the morning but it runs from Monday, March 4, to Friday.

The council are looking for support from community groups and businesses to assist Depot staff and the Neighbourhood Action Team during the five day event.

Some of the jobs include painting, varnishing, washing and cleaning, as well as weeding, planting and removing some fly posting.

It’s all taking place around Brentwood High Street, including giving some TLC to the beautiful Larkin fountain and cleaning up Crown Street and the Chapel Ruins.

If Shenfield or Ingatestone is a bit closer to home for you, dates for similar events are due to be announced soon.

How Can We Help?

There are different tasks for each day, as follows.

What Do I Need To Bring?

All the equipment needed to carry out the tasks will be provided by the council.

Overalls will be available for messy jobs like painting but wear something comfortable which you don’t mind getting a bit dirty.

Light refreshments will also be provided but I’ll be taking my water bottle to Refill!

Some tasks might involve bending and squatting, so bear this in mind if you have mobility issues.

So that’s it - fingers crossed for a dry week. Hope to see some of you there!

If you want to join me on March, Friday 8 to work on the area in Crown Street, let me know - it would be good to get a team together.

For general information about the event, you can contact the council via business@brentwood.gov.uk.

If you’re planning to help at any time, it’s best to get in touch with the council so they know how many people might be coming.
