Popular former Eastenders character Fatboy officially opened the doors to a new-look Costcutter shop at the weekend.
The launch even in Ongar Road, Brentwood, saw Ricky Norwood, who played Fatboy, cut the store’s ribbon to kick off the day, followed by a barbecue by butchers Oliver’s in Rayleigh Road, a raffle, face painting and balloon modelling.
The store has been upgraded and refitted as part of a national brand transformation programme from the chain supermarket.
It now boasts food-to-go, specialist gluten-free, vegan, fine food ranges as well as local produce.
Staff also held a Macmillan coffee morning on the day to raise money for the charity.
Store owner Peter Patel said: “We’re delighted with our new store, we tailored it specially to meet the needs of the local community, as well as create a fantastic easy shopping experience.”
