Brentwood Borough Council and distinguished guests attended the event held on Monday, June 24, at the Army Reserve Centre, Clive Road, Warley.

This marks the start of the annual national campaign culminating in Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 29.

The week-long event centres around giving people the opportunity to show support for the men and women of the Armed Forces past and present, including serving troops, service families, reservists, veterans and cadets.

The Mayor of Brentwood, Councillor Keith Parker opened the event, and prayers were read by the Army Reserve, Royal British Legion and the Combined Cadet Forces for Shenfield High School.

The Reverend Jane Bradbury said prayers which were followed by The Armed Forces Day flag being raised by the mayor.

Cllr Parker said: "It is an honour to take part in this annual event and I feel privileged to be involved.

"It is really important that we remember not only those who have given their lives but those who are actively dedicating theirs to our safety and secure future."
