Family and friends of a beloved nan who turned 99 this week gathered at her care home to celebrate her birthday.
Guests were invited to join Dorothy Bennett, staff and other residents at Sycamore Court, Magpie Lane, Warley, on Wednesday, June 12 for her surprise birthday party.
At the party, Mrs Bennett was asked to lead the grand opening of the new garden area at the home.
She proudly cut the ribbon to the new patio area and enjoyed blowing out the candles on her scrumptious birthday cake while residents cheered her along.
Dorothy used to love playing golf and nowadays she enjoys a game of dominoes with her family and staff in the home.
She was married to police officer Earnest Frank Bennett at the age of 20 and had a successful career working for the government.
She has four children and says the secret for living to 99 is to keep fit and stay active.
Activity co-ordinator Julie Morrison said: "Dorothy is a much-loved resident and it was just wonderful celebrating her 99th birthday.
"She has such a special and close bond with her children - it was just fitting having them here on the day."
