A 14-year-old pupil, who fences for England, has added becoming a children’s author to her list of accomplishments.
Brentwood School pupil Maddy Gale’s story Leave with Me, a children’s story about leaving the safety of home and discovering the great world outside, was written five years ago when she was just nine.
Now an international fence, Maddy has used her experiences of travelling and being separated from her family to inspire her story of growing up, fleeing the nest and experiencing the world even though sometimes it might be difficult.
Leave with Me, which was originally a school essay, was finally publihed by Troubador Publishing earlier this year.
Maddy said: “I’m so happy to think that what started out as just an idea ended up as a book.
“It really came alive when James Weston Lewis, the illustrator, provided the beautiful pictures.
“They were perfect to go with my story.”
