Three girls were proud to walk into school as chess champions after their team won a national competition.

On Saturday, March 23, Arianna (Year 4), Charlotte and Ishita (Year 6) from Ursuline Preparatory School, Warley, were selected to represent the Essex U11’s Girls at the EPSCA (English Primary School Chess Association) chess contest in Birmingham.

All three made their way in good spirits to meet the other nine team members and were praised for their attitude and behaviour at the competition.

They were declared as the winners, beating 15 other teams from around the country.

Headmistress Pauline Wilson said: “I was delighted to hear this news, especially as chess has become very popular within school, with more and more children signing up for chess club.

“I had great pleasure in presenting all three girls with their certificates and trophies at the weekly assembly attended by the whole school community.”
